BOSTON (AP) -- Joel Smith scored 20 points, including two free throws at the end of regulation and four more in overtime as Northeastern dropped Boston University 82-74 on Friday in the season opener for both teams.

Smith, who also grabbed 12 rebounds, sank two free throws with 47 seconds left to put the Huskies up 64-63. Boston's Darryl Partin connected on just one of his two free throw attempts with 34 seconds left, sending the game into overtime.

In the extra frame, Smith had an early layup and then scored the game's final four points at the free throw line as Northeastern outscored the Terriers 18-10 to seal it.
