STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) -- Freshman Trey Lewis scored 17 points in his Penn State debut, two more players scored in double figures and the Nittany Lions won coach Patrick Chambers' first game Saturday, 70-55 over Hartford.

Tim Frazier, the lone returning starter from last year's NCAA tournament team, tallied 16 for Penn State and Cammeron Woodyard added 14.

More than 4,150 turned out for the free admission basketball game, which tipped off about an hour after an emotional football contest between No. 12 Penn State lost to 19-ranked Nebraska. The football game took place at the neighboring Beaver Stadium amid a sexual abuse scandal involving a former Nittany Lion football coach.

For Hartford, freshman Wes Cole was the lone scorer in double figures, with 12 point. Maciel Genesis and freshman Mark Nwakamma added eight points each.

Penn State opened a 32-22 lead by halftime and led the Hawks by as many as 26 late in the game.
