HAMPTON, Va. (AP) -- Darrion Pellum scored 26 points and Hampton held off High Point 68-64 Tuesday night, after the Panthers cut a 14-point second-half deficit to a point with 14 seconds to go.
The Pirates (3-3), who led by as many as 15 in the first half, were still ahead by 11 with 3:27 to play. A 15-5 run, keyed by 3-pointers by Shay Shine, Nick Barbour and Xavier Martin, closed the gap to 65-64.
Pellum hit a pair of free throws with 13 seconds left and, after two missed shots by the Panthers, Danny Agbelese was 1 of 2 with 3 seconds to go to seal the win.
Pellum was 9 of 17 from the field for Hampton, which shot 58.8 percent in the second half (10 of 17).
Shine scored 15 of his 19 points after the break. Barbour added 17 points for High Point (2-4), which hit 13 3-pointers.
