MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (AP) -- Velton Jones scored 16 points, 15 in the second half, to lead Robert Morris to a 72-64 victory Saturday night in its first game ever against Louisiana-Lafayette.

A free throw by Jones put the Colonials (8-3) ahead to stay, 55-54, with 6:26 remaining. Two free throws by Lucky Jones, who had 12 points off the bench, a free throw by Anthony Myers and a layup by Russell Johnson made it 60-54.

After the Ragin' Cajuns (5-8) closed to within four points, 66-62, with 51 seconds left, a layup by Velton Jones and his two free throws on the Colonials' next trip widened the lead to 70-62.

Velton Jones made 10 of 13 free throws, the same number as the entire Louisiana-Lafayette team.

Bryant Mbamalu scored 17 points to lead the Ragin' Cajuns, who played without their leading two scorers, J.J. Thomas and Kadeem Coleby, due to injuries.
