BOSTON (AP) -- Matt Humphrey scored 18 points to lead Boston College to its third straight win, 83-73 over Sacred Heart on Wednesday night.
Dennis Clifford had 16 points and six rebounds before fouling out with more than two minutes left. Ryan Anderson scored 13 and Lonnie Jackson 12 for the Eagles (5-7).
Shane Gibson led the Pioneers (6-8) with 25 points and became the 33rd player in school history to reach 1,000 points. The 6-foot-2 junior scored 17 in the opening half and sat for nearly 12 minutes in the second before returning for the final 4 minutes.
It was a season-high scoring output for the Eagles.
Sacred Heart has lost five of its past six.
Boston College, which had a 13-point lead whittled to one, took control with a quick 7-0 spree that was capped by consecutive 3s by Jackson and Humphrey for a 70-62 edge with 5 1/2 minutes left.
Gibson, who played the first four minutes of the second half and then sat, returned with just more than four minutes left and scored his first two points of the second half to cut the deficit to 74-67 with 2:12 left. He later added a pair of 3s, but it came way too late for the Pioneers.
The Eagles, who held a six-point edge at halftime, opened their first double-digit lead of the game, 55-45, on Patrick Heckmann's free throw with 13:21 left in the game.
After a basket by Sacred Heart's Stan Dulaire, Gabe Moton and Jackson then sandwiched 3s around Dulaire's free throw, pushing Boston College ahead 61-48 with 11:55 to play.
But the Pioneers started trapping a bit more defensively, picked up the pace and scored 12 straight points, cutting it to 61-60 on Louis Montes' layup with 8:06 to go.
In the first half, Boston College opened a nine-point lead four times, shot 52 percent (13 of 25) and led 41-35 at the break. It matched a season-high scoring in any half by the Eagles.
Gibson hit a long 3-pointer from the top of the key with 2:37 to play, pushing him to more than 1,000 points.
The Eagles had opened a 40-31 lead on John Cahill's 3-pointer from the right corner with 1:22 left, but Gibson answered with a 3 from the top to end of string of 12 straight points he scored that kept the Pioneers close.
