NEW YORK (AP) -- Chris Gaston scored a career-high 35 points and grabbed a season-high 15 rebounds as Fordham defeated Texas State 81-70 on Thursday night.
It was Gaston's ninth double-double of the season, the most for any NCAA Division I player. Gaston hit half of the Rams field goals, making 13 of 17. Without Gaston, Fordham made only 13 of 47 field goal attempts.
Gaston also was on target from the foul line, making 9 of 12 as Fordham made 27 of 38 as a team.
Fordham (5-6) led 44-27 at halftime and built a 25-point lead with 16:36 to play before Texas State began to chip away.
The Rams dominated close to the basket and outrebounded Texas State 52-39.Fordham outscored Texas State 40-20 in the paint and 21-10 on second-half points.
Matt Staff and Eddie Rios each scored 11points for Texas State (6-5), which had its two-game winning streak snapped.
