DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Karl Madison scored 24 points and Rayvonte Rice added 22 as Drake defeated Indiana State 79-64 on Wednesday night in the Missouri Valley Conference opener for both schools.
Ben Simons had 15 points, Jeremy Jeffers scored 14 and Jordan Clarke grabbed 12 rebounds for the Bulldogs (8-4), who never trailed in the game. They shot 71 percent (17 of 24) in the second half to break away from a 35-31 halftime advantage. Drake made 56 percent overall from the field, and 60 percent (6 for 10) from 3-point range.
Dwayne Lathan scored 24 points to lead the Sycamores (9-3). Jake Odum was the only other player in double figures with 10 points for Indiana State, which made 39 percent of its field-goal tries.
