CLINTON, S.C. (AP) -- Anthony Raffa scored 19 points, surpassing 1,000 for his career, and made two free throws to seal the win as Coastal Carolina held off Presbyterian 52-49 Thursday night.
The Chanticleers (15-5, 8-2 Big South Conference) led 34-22 with 15:30 remaining, but the Blue Hose closed to 50-49 with 21 seconds left after eight straight points by Khalid Mutakabbir, who finished with 23.
Raffa, who was 10 of 11 from the line, hit two foul shots with 16 seconds left and Pierre Miller's 3-point attempt missed as time expired, sending Presbyterian (8-12, 2-8) to its sixth straight loss.
Raffa, a junior who played his freshman year at Albany (N.Y.), came in needing only one point to reach 1,000.
Coastal Carolina, which ranked third in the country in field-goal percentage (50.5), shot 43.2 percent (19 of 44), but had a 35-25 rebounding margin to exceed its average (+8.9, sixth in the NCAA).
