CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) -- Jelani Hewitt made a 3-pointer as time expired to give Georgia Southern a 75-72 win over Chattanooga on Saturday night.
The Eagles (9-12, 7-4 Southern Conference) trailed 72-70 with 1:07 to play before Hewitt hit a jumper to tie it with 41 seconds left. Omar Wattad then missed a layup for the Mocs (9-14, 3-7) with 7 seconds to play.
Hewitt finished with 16 points, 13 coming in the second half as Georgia Southern outscored Chattanooga 49-36.
The Eagles shot 50 percent in the second half (17 of 34) after going just 9 of 26 from the field (34.6 percent) in the first.
Ben Drayton III also had 16 points for the Eagles. Teammates Eric Ferguson added 15 and Willie Powers 11 points and seven assists.
Drazen Zlovaric led Chattanooga with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Keegan Bell added 16 points for the Mocs, who lost their fifth straight.
