CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Willie Powers knocked down a jumper with 1:31 left in overtime for the final margin and Georgia Southern's defense locked down the rest of the way for a 73-72 win over The Citadel on Saturday night.
The Bulldogs led 72-69 with 3:04 remaining in the extra frame when Powers took over. He laid it in to pull the Eagles within one point with 2 1/2 minutes to go and then connected on what would be the game-winner less than a minute later.
Then, the Eagles clamped down on defense, as Powers picked up a steal and Georgia Southern forced a missed jumper by The Citadel's Ashton Moore with 3 seconds left.
Eric Ferguson scored 14 points to pace Georgia Southern (13-12, 11-4 Southern Conference) while Powers and Ben Drayton finished with 13 apiece.
Moore had 24 points and was 10 of 10 on free throws to lead the Bulldogs (4-21, 1-13).
