LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Chasson Randle scored 27 of his 30 points in a dynamic first half, surpassing his previous career high before halftime in Stanford's 85-65 victory over Arizona State on Wednesday night in the opening round of the Pac-12 tournament.

Aaron Bright had 11 points for the seventh-seeded Cardinal (21-10), who took a 26-point lead late in the first half thanks in part to an 18-4 run led by Randle. Stanford's freshman scoring leader hit five 3-pointers and 10 free throws in his spectacular half, and Arizona State got no closer than 13 points after halftime.

Stanford will face second-seeded California on Thursday. The Cardinal beat their Bay Area rivals 75-70 last Sunday, preventing the Golden Bears from winning the conference title outright.

Chanse Creekmur and Jordan Bachynski scored 11 points apiece for the 10th-seeded Sun Devils (10-21), who acquired an insurmountable deficit in the first half while committing 11 of their 14 turnovers. Arizona State completed its second straight losing season under coach Herb Sendek with five losses in its final seven games.
