BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) -- Tim Williams scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Samford past Georgia Southern 57-48 Saturday in a Southern Conference showdown.

Clide Geffrard Jr. and Raijon Kelly chipped in with 11 points apiece for Samford (2-7, 1-0).

Trailing 34-33, Samford's Geffrard Jr. connected on three free throws to put the Bulldogs on top 36-34 with 13:14 left to play. Samford would never trail again as they outscored Georgia Southern (2-5, 0-2) 21-14 the rest of the way.

Samford was the aggressive team, shooting 19 of 25 from the free throw line compared to Georgia Southern shooting 50 percent (3 of 6).

Eric Ferguson led Georgia Southern with 23 points and eight rebounds on 9-of-11 shooting, but was the only Eagle in double figures.

With the win Samford snapped a six game losing streak, while the Eagles have now lost three straight.
