KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Tevin Baskin scored 18 points and Appalachian State snapped a seven-game losing streak by beating UMKC 81-71 on Sunday.

Tab Hamilton had 17 points and Jamaal Trice, who made four 3-pointers, scored 16 for the Mountaineers (2-7), who hadn't won since beating Montreat of the NAIA in their opener on Nov. 9. Jay Canty had 12 points and a team-high six rebounds for the winners.

Appalachian State shot 62 percent from the field in the second half and 55 percent for the game. The Mountaineers also made their last 17 free throws.

Nelson Kirksey led the Kangaroos (4-6) with 18 points, going 8 for 8 from the field. Estan Tyler added 15 points and Thomas Staton scored 12 for Kansas City in the first meeting between the schools.
