No. 12 Uw-milw (26-5) vs. No. 1 Illinois (34-1)

ROSEMONT, Illinois (Ticker) -- Top-seeded Illinois will make the trip north from Champaign to the Chicago area to face an unlikely opponent in the regional semifinals.

The Fighting Illini will take on 12th seed and Horizon League champion Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Thursday, with the winner to face Arizona or Oklahoma State on Saturday.

After dropping the regular-season finale at Ohio State on March 6, Illinois has won five straight games, including the Big Ten Conference tournament title. The school defeated Fairleigh Dickinson and Nevada in the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament.

James Augustine scored a career-high 23 points on 9-of-11 shooting and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Illini advanced to the regional semifinals for the fourth time in five seasons with a 71-59 victory over Nevada on Saturday.

Illinois trailed for only 15 seconds of the 80 minutes in its first two games and set a school single-season record with 34 victories - the fourth-highest total in Division I history.

UW-Milwaukee makes its debut in the regional semifinals after upsetting No. 5 Alabama and No. 4 Boston College for it first two NCAA Tournament victories.

Joah Tucker scored 23 points and Ed McCants added 18 as the Panthers went on a 28-10 run to overcome an 11-0 deficit and eliminate the Eagles, 83-75, on Saturday.

In setting a school record for victories, UW-Milwaukee has won 11 straight contests and 19 of 20. The Panthers have recorded 20 wins in three straight seasons for the first time.

Illinois has won both meetings against UW-Milwaukee, including an 85-44 victory in the last matchup on December 6, 2000.
