LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (Ticker) -- Luke Whitehead scored 19 points and reserve Nate Daniels added 18 as No. 14 Louisville raced to an early lead and cruised to its eighth straight victory, a 92-56 triumph over Toledo.
Taquan Dean chipped in 14 points and Larry O'Bannon 11 for Louisville (8-1), which has not lost since a season-opening setback to Iowa. The Cardinals also improved to 21-1 in December under Rick Pitino.
Louisville, which played most of the game without leading scorer Francisco Garcia, shot 53 percent (30-of-57) and made 13-of-29 3-point attempts.
"That was a devastating offensive performance," Pitino said. "As good as we looked sometimes, you have no idea how scary this team looks on film."
"Obviously we ran into a buzz saw tonight," Toledo coach Stan Joplin said. "I think this is the best team we have faced and I think we can take something from this loss."
Pitino then put added pressure on his squad.
"If this team stays humble, we can be a fantastic basketball team," Pitino said.
Garcia was rested after injuring his left knee early in the first half.
"When we lost Francisco, we had to have people step up and they did," Pitino said.
One of those people was Daniels, who made all five of his shots - four of which came from the arc - and all four of his free throws in 13 minutes.
Keith Triplett had 11 points for Toledo (7-2), which shot just 29 percent (9-of-31) in the second half. The Rockets, who were down 19-7 just over seven minutes into the contest, also committed 20 turnovers and were outrebounded 41-28.
Louisville trailed 5-2 early in the contest but Whitehead was hot early and the Cardinals built a 26-11 lead midway through the half.
The lead was 48-34 at the break but consecutive baskets by the Rockets sliced Louisville's lead to 10 points. Dean responded by draining a 3-pointer and Whitehead had a dunk as the Cardinals pulled away with a a 30-8 burst.
