George Mason 58, Tennessee 55

FAIRFAX, Virginia (Ticker) -- George Mason reached several milestones and ended a dubious run with a 58-55 victory over Tennessee in the opening round of the National Invitation Tournament.

Tony Skinn scored 16 points and Terry Reynolds added 15 off the bench as George Mason (22-9) set school records with its 22nd win and 13th at the Patriot Center.

The Patriots also posted their first victory in a postseason tournament since defeating Lamar in the 1986 NIT. Since then, they were 0-3 in the NCAA Tournament and 0-2 in the NIT.

Brandon Crump had 16 points for Tennessee (15-14), which fell to 1-10 on the road. The Volunteers committed 18 turnovers en route to their third straight NIT loss, falling to 12-10 all-time in this tournament.

George Mason will play Austin Peay in the first round.
