Notre Dame 71, Purdue 59

SOUTH BEND, Indiana (Ticker) -- Chris Quinn came up big early and late for Notre Dame.

Quinn scored eight of his 21 points in the final 5:17 as the Fighting Irish advanced to the second round of the National Invitation Tournament with a 71-59 victory over Purdue.

Rick Cornett added a career-high 16 points off the bench for Notre Dame (18-12), which will play Saint Louis in the second round.

Quinn scored the Fighting Irish's first 11 points, then made two free throws and a jumper in the lane to put them ahead for good, 55-52, with 4:43 left. He added four free throws in the final minute to seal the win as Notre Dame improved to 4-3 all-time on St. Patrick's Day.

The Irish overcame 27 percent (6-of-22) shooting in the second half by going 17-of-19 from the free-throw line.

Brett Buscher had 12 points and David Teague added 10 and nine rebounds for Purdue (17-14), which ended the season with five straight losses.
