Villanova 85, Drexel 70

VILLANOVA, Pennsylvania (Ticker) -- Randy Foye and Allan Ray scored 20 points apiece and Curtis Sumpter added 14 and 11 rebounds as Villanova posted an 85-70 triumph over Drexel in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament.

Foye and Ray were key contributors in an 18-0 second-half burst by Villanova (17-16). Drexel was leading, 45-35, with 16:50 left in the second half when a three-point play by Foye ignited the pivotal run.

Ray had six straight points in the run, which was capped by a dunk by Jason Fraser with 11 1/2 minutes to go.

The Wildcats, who lost in the semifinals of the Big East tournament, will face Virginia in the second round. Villanova was the only team with a .500 record selected to compete in the NIT.

Sean Brooks had 24 points and Tim Whitworth added 14 for Drexel (18-11), which is winless in 17 games against its area rivals.

The Dragons, making their second straight NIT appearance, were outrebounded 44-26.
