WICHITA, Kansas (Ticker) -- Nate Johnson buried a 3-pointer to start the second overtime and Andrew Wilson made four free throws in the final 15.1 seconds as Florida State defeated Wichita State, 91-84, in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament.
Making its first postseason appearance in six years, Florida State (19-13) scored seven of the first nine points in the second overtime, then held on behind Wilson's free throws.
The Seminoles, who had lost five straight and seven of their previous nine games, trailed, 43-29, just over three minutes into the second half and was down 10 points with 4 1/2 minutes left in regulation.
But Von Wafer buried a 3-pointer to spark an 18-8 spurt that closed the second half. He finished with 14 points.
Wichita State (21-11) scored the first six points of the first overtime, but the Seminoles responded with a 9-0 run. The Shockers forced a second extra period when Jamar Howard sank a 3-pointer with 8.1 seconds left.
Johnson opened double overtime with a 3-pointer to put Florida State ahead for good.
The Seminoles will face Iowa State in the second round.
