AMES, Iowa (Ticker) -- Curtis Stinson scored 15 of his 21 in the second half without missing a shot as hot-shooting Iowa State turned back Georgia, 82-74, in the first round of the NIT.
Stinson was 6-of-6 from the field and 2-of-2 from the line after halftime, when Iowa State shot a sizzling 81 percent (17-of-21). Overall, Stinson was 9-of-10 and the Cyclones were 29-of-39, a remarkable 74 percent.
Jackson Vroman scored 23 points on 7-of-9 shooting for Iowa State (18-12), which used a 10-1 run midway through the second half to turn a one-point lead into a 66-56 advantage.
Marcus Jefferson scored 11 points and Jake Sullivan added 10 for the Cyclones, who will face Florida State in the next round.
Damien Wilkins scored 20 points for Georgia (16-14), which also had four players in double figures.
While the Cyclones attacked from inside and shot just five 3-pointers, the Bulldogs launched 27 shots from the arc, making 12. Wilkins was 5-of-6 and Levi Stukes was 3-of-7.
