TUSCALOOSA, Alabama (Ticker) -- Before venturing to the Great White North, No. 18 Alabama used some hot shooting to get a win at home.
Chuck Davis scored a career-high 25 points and Earnest Shelton added 17 and both keyed a big first half as Alabama posted an 85-71 victory over North Texas.
Following the win, the Crimson Tide will travel to Alaska for the Great Alaska Shootout. They open up vs. Alaska-Anchorage on Wednesday night.
Davis and Shelton, who combined for 32 points in Alabama's 97-66 win over Western Carolina on Friday, were nearly perfect in the first half as the Crimson Tide (2-0) took a 44-28 lead.
Davis was 4-of-4 from the floor and scored 10 points before halftime and Shelton was 5-of-6 for 15 points, making all three of his 3-point attempts.
Alabama shot a torrid 73 percent (16-of-22) in the first half. Davis and Shelton scored three points apiece during a 13-0 run midway through the first half that gave the Crimson Tide a 27-9 edge.
North Texas made a surge in the second half but never got closer than 52-43.
Ronald Steele scored 14 points on 4-of-4 shooting and Kennedy Watson chipped in 13 for Alabama, which shot 55 percent (27-of-49) overall.
Leonard Hopkins scored 19 points and Michael Jones added 18 for the Mean Green. Calvin Watson made all four of his 3-pointers and scored 15.
