NEW ORLEANS (Ticker) -- Jamall Edmonson helped Mississippi State build a lead. Lawrence Roberts erased all comeback efforts.
Edmonson came off the bench to score a season-high 14 points and Roberts recorded nine of his 14 in the final seven minutes as No. 23 Mississippi State posted a 74-59 triumph over New Orleans.
Reaching double figures previously just once this season, the 5-9 Edmonson nailed a trio of 3-pointers in the first half to erase an early 9-2 Privateers lead. He had 11 points and Ontario Harper nine of his 14 in the half, which ended with the Bulldogs ahead, 43-35.
A National Player of the Year candidate, Roberts overcame a one-point first-half effort to lead Mississippi State (8-2) to its second consecutive win. He also grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked four shots.
The reigning Southeastern Conference Player of the Year posted his fourth double-double of the season.
Shane Power added 17 points for the Bulldogs, who have won 13 straight road games. Both their losses this season came in neutral-site contests.
Bo McCaleb scored 16 points but shot just 6-of-21 for New Orleans (3-4), which had won its previous two games. Chad Barnes added 15 points for the Privateers, hitting 5-of-7 shots from the arc.
