WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Wake Forest may have received a better workout had it scrimmaged its student body.
Taron Downey scored 13 points and Eric Williams added 12 and 11 rebounds as sixth-ranked Wake Forest cruised to an 88-47 victory against overmatched Longwood.
The Lancers, an independent Division I program located in Farmville, Virginia, have won just one game this season. They have lost 18 straight contests and are 6-51 over the last two seasons.
"Give coach (Mike) Gillian credit because it isn't easy to do that (play hard) with that record," Wake Forest coach Skip Prosser said. "I thought we competed hard. The most pleasing thing is 23 assists on 30 baskets. That's quite a high percentage."
After suffering a 102-92 Atlantic Coast Conference defeat to Duke on Sunday, Wake Forest (23-4) scored the first 15 points of the game and extended the lead to 47-7 with five minutes left before settling for a 57-22 lead at the half.
Chris Ellis scored 11 points and Chris Paul and Kyle Visser added 10 each for the Demon Deacons, who pushed the lead to 44 points in the second half.
Michael Jefferson scored 14 points for the Lancers (1-29), whose only win this season was a 75-69 triumph over Howard on December 18.
