COLLEGE PARK, Maryland (Ticker) -- Nik Caner-Medley and Maryland did not shoot the ball particularly well against Davidson, but they made up for it with stingy defense.
Caner-Medley made just 3-of-10 shots but scored 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the Terrapins pulled away from the Wildcats, 78-63, to advance to the quarterfinals of the NIT.
The Terps (18-12) shot just 42 percent (28-of-67) but limited the Wildcats to 31 percent (21-of-67), including just 25 percent (8-of-32) after the break.
Reserve James Gist led six players in double figures with 15 points for Maryland, which next faces TCU.
The Terps, who were tied at the break, 34-34, dominated the Wildcats inside, outscoring them in the paint, 34-12.
Brendan Winters paced Davidson (23-9) with 16 points.
