Wizards place Hamilton on injured list Posted: Wednesday December 26, 2001 8:14 PMUpdated: Wednesday December 26, 2001 11:56 PM
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- The Washington Wizards placed guard Richard Hamilton on the injured list with a groin injury before Wednesday's game against the Charlotte Hornets. Hamilton said he had a partial tear of the right groin and could be out up to four weeks. "It's sore, they say it's going to take 3-4 weeks to heal," Hamilton said. "Hopefully it won't take that long." Hamilton was injured when he collided with another player in Friday night's game against the Orlando Magic. He was re-examined Monday and was told not to play again until the injury heals. Hamilton is the team's second-leading scorer averaging 19.8 points per game. He was named the NBA Player of the Week on December 17 after averaging 28.5 points in four Wizards victories. Washington entered Wednesday's game with a nine-game winning streak. The Wizards had the streak snapped with a 99-93 loss to the Hornets. Hubert Davis started in Hamilton's place. Courtney Alexander, who was on the injured list with contusions of the left fibula and a sprained left ankle, was activated to replace Hamilton on the roster.
