Sonics trade Anderson to Hornets Posted: Thursday February 20, 2003 5:57 PMUpdated: Friday February 21, 2003 2:02 AM
Campbell was expected to be a starter and major contributor this season. But a knee injury kept him out of training camp and the early part of the season, and he never regained his starting job from the younger Jamaal Magloire. The Hornets have been looking for point guard help with Baron Davis out with chronic back spans stemming from a herniated disk and a knee injury that required surgery last month. Davis is not expected back until next month, and the Hornets are trying to solidify their spot in the playoff hunt. New Orleans is in sixth place in the Eastern Conference, four games ahead of the Orlando Magic, who hold the eighth and final spot. Campbell, who's making $7.9 million this season, has played in 41 of the Hornets' 56 games, averaging 7.2 points and 3.5 rebounds in about 16 minutes a game. Campbell, in his 13th season, is in the final year of a seven-year contract he signed with Los Angeles before being traded to the Hornets during the 1998-99 season. Earlier this season, Campbell's Atlanta-based agent, Richard Howell, had said Campbell hoped to finish his career in New Orleans. Campbell said Wednesday night after the Hornets' victory over Washington that he had paid attention to reports that the team was looking to trade him and doubted he would be moved. Anderson, in his 12th season, was traded to Seattle this season by Boston for Vin Baker.
Anderson, who played with the Hornets in Charlotte for half of
the 1995-96 season, has played in 38 games with the SuperSonics
this season. He is averaging 6.1 points and 3.2 assists in about 18
minutes per game.
