ATLANTA (SI.com) -- The New Orleans Hornets have narrowed their search for a head coach to former NBA head coaches Brian Hill and Tim Floyd, a team source told SI.com's Jack McCallum.

The Hornets fired Paul Silas on May 4 after losing in the first round of the playoffs to the Philadelphia 76ers.

While it has been reported that former NBA head coach and current TNT analyst Mike Fratello is the front-runner for the New Orleans position, the source said Hill and Floyd are the two being considered by general manager Bob Bass.

Floyd, who coached the Chicago Bulls from 1999-2002, is said to have a slight edge over Hill, who worked under Silas as an assistant for the past two years and previously coached the Orlando Magic (1993-97) and Vancouver Grizzlies (1997-2000).

Silas spent five seasons with Hornets and is the franchise's all-time winningest coach. New Orleans went 47-35 this season, finishing third in the Central Division.

He posted an overall record of 208-155 with the Hornets, who moved from Charlotte to New Orleans after last season. Silas took the team to the playoffs each of the past four seasons, but it never advanced beyond the second round.

New Orleans recently hired former head coach Allan Bristow as the team's assistant general manager.
