Lakers sign draft choice Cook

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday agreed to terms with first-round draft pick Brian Cook, the 24th overall selection.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. According to the rookie salary scale, Cook gets a three-year contract worth a minimum of $2.43 million. The Lakers hold an option for a fourth year at approximately $1.05 million.

Cook was one of nine seniors selected in the first round after being named Big Ten Conference Player of the Year due to a stellar final season with Illinois. He averaged 20.0 points to lead the Big Ten and 7.6 rebounds.

Cook is expected to play for the Lakers' summer league entry in Los Angeles.
