NEW YORK (AP) -- Former Maine star Cindy Blodgett is expected to see more playing time in her second WNBA season after being traded by the Cleveland Rockers to the Sacramento Monarchs.

The Rockers, who advanced to the playoffs last season, dealt their 1998 first-round draft choice to the Monarchs on Monday for 6-foot-5 backup center Quacy Barnes.

"This will be a great opportunity for Cindy," said Rockers Coach Linda Hill-MacDonald. "She deserves to play for a team that needs a shooting guard. We have a lot of depth at that position."

Blodgett, who scored 3,005 points at the University of Maine, began her rookie season as primary substitute but was used only sparingly as the season went on. When the Rockers drafted Kellie Jolly last month to back up point guard Suzie McConnell Serio, Blodgett appeared destined to be the team's third shooting guard, with little chance to play.

The Monarchs, who were 8-22 last year, see Blodgett playing both guard spots.

"We hate to lose a young player like Quacy Barnes, but the opportunity to acquire a talent like Cindy Blodgett was simply too good to pass up," Sacramento General Manager Jerry Reynolds said.

"We feel confident she will bring outstanding offensive capabilities at both the point and two-guard positions."
