SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Sheryl Swoopes' career-high 29 points has led the Houston Comets to a 78-68 win over the Utah Starzz.

The effort included an 18-foot jumper with 4:18 left that keyed a 12-1 run Wednesday.

Utah (2-6), whose Natalie Williams scored 17 of her 23 points in the first half, led most of the opening stanza, twice by seven points.

Houston (8-1) bolted ahead by six points early in the second half, but Utah rallied to claim the lead four times before the Comets' late run sparked by Swoopes, whose previous high had been 28 points against New York on June 13, 1998.

The Comets led 43-40 at the half.

WNBA scoring leader Cynthia Cooper scored 22 points, four under her average, and Tina Thompson added 10 points while reserve Tammy Jackson grabbed 10 rebounds in the Comets' 33-31 advantage.

Adrienne Goodson added 14 points for Utah, which suffered its fourth straight loss.
