ORLANDO, Florida (Ticker) -- The New York Liberty used another solid defensive stretch to record their season-high fifth straight win, 55-51 over the Orlando Miracle in a key Eastern Conference matchup.

Two nights after holding Charlotte without a basket for nearly 12 1/2 minutes, the Liberty did the same to Orlando for a 4:23 stretch in the second half.

Vickie Johnson hit a jumper and Crystal Robinson drilled a 3-pointer as New York went ahead for good, 45-41, with 6:16 remaining. The Miracle missed five straight shots from the field before Adrienne Johnson's 16-footer jumper trimmed the margin to 47-45 with 4:11 to play.

The Liberty began to pull away as Vickie Johnson made a short jumper and Tamika Whitmore added a layup for a 51-45 cushion in the final minute.

Adrienne Johnson answered with a 3-pointer, but Elaine Powell and Johnson missed potential tying 3-pointers and Robinson was 4-of-4 from the foul line in the final 11 seconds.

Vickie Johnson scored 15 points and Robinson and All-Star Tari Phillips added 11 apiece for New York, which climbed within one game of first-place Orlando in the East. The winning streak is the Liberty's longest since taking six straight from July 18-August 2, 1998.

Adrienne Johnson scored 22 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for the Miracle, who have lost two in a row following a six-game winning streak.
