PHOENIX (Ticker) -- Yolanda Griffith tied a season high with 22 points and Ruthie Bolton added 20 off the bench as the surging Sacramento Monarchs defeated the free-falling Phoenix Mercury, 79-64.

Griffith connected on 9-of-13 shots as the Monarchs shot a season-high 54 percent (31-of-57) from the field. The win was Sacramento's fifth win in seven games after starting the season 2-14.

Sacramento earned a third straight victory for the first time since ending the 2001 campaign with four consecutive wins.

Griffith and Tangela Smith, who finished with 16 points, scored 14 apiece in the first half as the Monarchs jumped out to a 40-27 halftime advantage. Phoenix got no closer than eight points thereafter as it lost its sixth straight game.

Sacramento, which entered the contest 1-11 on the road, evened its season series with Phoenix. The Mercury defeated the Monarchs on June 18, 78-63.

Mercury reserve Kayte Christensen, who had 10 points, was the only Phoenix player to reach double figures, but the team nevertheless shot a season-high 51 percent (25-of-49).

Phoenix, which possesses a WNBA-record 18-game road losing streak dating to last season, lost for the 12th time in 13 games.
