Tyson accepts D.C. interview invitation

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Mike Tyson has accepted an invitation to come to Washington for an interview before the city's boxing commission, the commission's vice chairman said Monday.

"We've reached an agreement," said Michael Brown of the D.C. Boxing and Wrestling Commission. "They've accepted our invitation."

Brown said he was still negotiating with Tyson's camp over the logistics of the interview, including the time, format and whether it would include any psychological testing.

The commission has scheduled a public hearing for March 12 and will vote afterward on whether to grant Tyson a license for a possible June 8 fight at the MCI Center. Brown has indicated the license will be granted because of the financial boost the fight would give the city, but opposition has been growing since the commission first made its intentions known last month.

Several states are also courting Tyson. Shelly Finkel, Tyson's adviser, said Tyson's interview in Washington was still "up in the air."

"He'll do whatever he has to do to be licensed," Finkel said.
