Daisy Fuentes has graced the covers of countless magazines, guided MTV viewers through the ups and downs of style trends, hosted highly publicized award programs, starred in television shows and movies and helped define our perception of Latina beauty and accomplishment. But Daisy Fuentes has also made an enormous impact on the lives of many people to whom she is much more than a beautiful celebrity.

Daisy's efforts on behalf of countless women and children are well known through her dedicated charity involvement. Most recently, her face has is appearing nationwide on behalf of the March of Dimes. While Daisy is known among many younger fans for her trendy persona, her recognizability to older women is instrumental in her campaigns for the March of Dimes. As a leading spokeswoman, Daisy is central to a current ad campaign encouraging pregnant women to take folic acid and prevent birth defects. Daisy's role becomes even more significant when considering her affinity with Latina women who are at a higher risk for defects such as spina bifidia. Many women resonate with Daisy as a hip, attractive, "in-the-know" woman, which strengthens her message all the more.

In addition to her important visibility on behalf of the March of Dimes, Daisy is a frequent advocate for children through her work with St. Jude's Children's

Hospital and Starlight Children's Foundation. Daisy discovered the St. Jude's Children Hospital just before Christmas, 1999 and with her empowered attitude and positive outlook she was inspired by the children she met there. The Hospital was founded years ago to support research into treatment and cures for children's cancer; Daisy's visit motivated her active engagement with numerous patients and their families. She reflects, "It made me want to do more. I learned it was a happy place with beautiful human beings who truly know the meaning and importance of life. And those adorable little children taught me the real meaning of courage." What would have struck many as frightening, sad and overwhelming only drove Daisy harder, encouraging her outreach and support for many causes benefiting women and children.

Daisy's experience at St. Jude's helped her realize that, while "kids are beating many types of cancers,…there are still many others dying from this horrible disease." A natural extension of her commitment to the children at St. Jude's is her work with the Starlight Children's Foundation, which is dedicated to brightening the lives of seriously ill children through wish granting and innovative, in-hospital entertainment therapy.

Daisy was instrumental in a recent out-patient initiative in California, judging the wild culinary creations of kids at the California Pizza Kitchen. While the restaurant donated $20,000 to the Foundation, Starlight kids got to make "dream pizzas" that were judged by Daisy and other celebrities. Both inside and outside of the hospital, Daisy works tirelessly to increase fun and happiness in the lives of seriously ill children, recognizing the important connection between emotional health and physical recovery.

Daisy Fuentes is known for her sunny, outgoing personality as much as for her fashion know-how and dramatic good looks. What's truly impressive, however, is her ability and dedication in using these characteristics to improve the lives of countless women and children. Her passion for helping others shows not signs of abatement; on the contrary, she vows, "As long as there is a sick child who says 'I wish,' our job is not done."
