Tim Carter resigns as South Carolina State coach

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina State basketball coach Tim Carter as resigned after six seasons.

The school said Carter was leaving immediately and associate head coach Murray Garvin would take over the struggling Bulldogs (4-17, 0-8 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), who have lost their last 14 games. South Carolina State has lost 24 consecutive conference games.

South Carolina State athletic director Charlene Johnson thanked Carter and wished him well in the future.

Carter was in his sixth season with the Bulldogs. He had a record of 67-108 at South Carolina State. Carter's best season came in 2009-10 when the Bulldogs went 18-14 and reached the MEAC tournament championship game.
