You are: Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston
You MC Hammer danced your way into the hearts of a nation before you ever took a collegiate snap, but this is what everyone has been waiting to see. They call this place Death Valley, and you understand why. The fans certainly didn't scream like this at Pittsburgh. You've put up big numbers so far against fairly weak competition, but tonight, Oct. 19, will probably decide the ACC Atlantic division and will definitely determine whether you and the Seminoles have a chance to compete for the national title.
You've watched your Clemson counterpart, Tajh Boyd, put on a clinic. You know how good your defense is, and he has thrown for 350 yards against it. But you've got one more drive. You trail by two points when you get the ball on your own 18-yard line. You complete passes to Kelvin Benjamin and Rashad Greene, and now you're moving. James Wilder Jr. drags two tacklers on his way to a 10-yard gain, and Devonta Freeman busts an eight-yarder up the middle. You're getting closer, but time is ticking away. Because they think you're going to play it safe on second-and-two this close to field goal range, coach Jimbo Fisher asks you to go deep. You look for Greene, but he's covered. So is Benjamin. You tuck and run. You gain 12 yards before going out of bounds on the 25-yard line with three seconds remaining. The field goal team takes the field. Last year, when Dustin Hopkins was still around, this would have been automatic. Now, it's up to another unproven redshirt freshman with a major skill set. Roberto Aguayo has the leg to be one of the best, but can he block out all the orange and all the screaming?
On the sidelines, you grip your teammates' hands. You close your eyes. You can't watch.
