The Wake Forest athletic director Ron Wellman is in Muncie, Ind., to interview Ball State coach Pete Lembo, according to an industry source. SI.com confirmed that Wellman is checked into a Muncie, Ind., hotel room. He wasn't in his room late Thursday night, indicating he was still meeting with Lembo.

Lembo is considered a favorite for the Wake Forest job after going 25-12 in three years at Ball State. He also won big at both Elon (35-22) and Lehigh (44-14), academically-oriented schools similar to Wake Forest.

Lembo led Ball State to a 10-2 record this season, highlighted by a blowout win at Virginia. In the two years prior to Lembo's arrival, Ball State went 6-18.

Bowling Green coach Dave Clawson is expected to emerge as a candidate for the job as well. Bowling Green plays No. 16 Northern Illinois Friday night in the MAC title game. Clemson assistant coach Chad Morris and Ohio State assistant Tom Herman could also emerge as options.

Lembo would potentially replace Jim Grobe, who resigned after 13 seasons. Grobe went 77-82 during his time in Winston-Salem, highlighted by winning the ACC in 2006.
