Iowa State hires ex-Kansas coach Mangino as offensive coordinator
Iowa State has agreed to hire former Kansas coach Mark Mangino as its offensive coordinator, according to a source.
Mangino, who is best known for leading Kansas to a 2008 Orange Bowl win, had been working as an assistant coach at Youngstown State. Mangino led Kansas to a 50-48 record in eight seasons with the Jayhawks. Prior to taking that job, he developed a reputation as a spread-offense guru while working for Bob Stoops at Oklahoma.
Mangino replaces Iowa State offensive coordinator Courtney Messingham. The Cyclones had a dismal season on offense, ranking second-to-last in the Big 12 in scoring offense and third-to-last in total offense. Iowa State finished the year 3-9 with a 2-7 conference record, its worst season since a 2-10 2008 campaign.
