One of the most abiding brands in college sports is poised to stamp the insignias of a relative newcomer on its equipment.

Notre Dame appears bound for an agreement with Under Armour to provide the gear for its team sports, abandoning longtime supplier adidas once that contract runs out at the end of this school year.

Under Armour representatives visited campus in South Bend, Ind., on Thursday, a source told No official deal has been announced or perhaps even consummated, but that is viewed as mere semantics at this stage. "Can't see us turning back now," the source said.

Multiple Notre Dame athletes took to Twitter to express their excitement about Under Armour as the new supplier for their equipment. ESPN first reported the imminent deal, and Irish Illustrated reported that an official announcement and press conference is expected in coming days.

Notre Dame's partnership with adidas dates to 1997, and the two are in the final stages of a 10-year deal signed in 2005. Under Armour also outfits Maryland, Northwestern, Auburn, South Carolina and Boston College, among other schools.
