One-Day Debut: vs. New Zealand at Faisalabad, Second ODI, 1984/85
Total Runs: 2,676
Total Wickets: 371 One of the world's most devastating left-arm fast bowlers, he took two hat tricks in successive tests recently against India and Sri Lanka. Akram is the leading wicket-taker in one-day internationals but his batting has proven. This is his fourth spell as Pakistan's captain and his fourth trip to the World Cup, including when he starred in Pakistan's triumphant victory in the 1992 final against England.
Full name: Saeed Anwar
Born: Sept. 6, 1968.
Played for: Pakistan, Agriculture Development Bank of Pakistan, United Bank Limited

Total Runs: 6,173
Total Wickets: 5 The other half of Pakistan's opening batting pair. Anwar is Pakistan's third leading run-getter in one-day cricket after Javed Miandad and Salim Malik. His 194 against India at Chennai in 1997 is the highest individual score in a limited-overs internationals. He has 15 one-day international centuries to his name. Anwar is also very capable at taking the shine off the new ball very fast, which has determined the outcome of more than one match.
Full name: Shahid Afridi Born: March 1, 1980.
Bats: Right-handed Played for: Pakistan, Karachi City Cricket Association
One-Day Debut: vs. Kenya at Nairobi, KCA Centenary Tournament, 1996/96
Total Runs: 1,912
Total Wickets: 53 Burst onto the international scene with a world one-day record 37-ball century, the fastest ever ODI century against Sri Lanka in his first innings. Afridi is well suited to the "pinch-hitter" role. Bowls quickish leg-breaks to supplement the Pakistan pace attack and is an excellent fielder.
Full name: Wajahatullah Wasti Born: Nov. 11, 1974.
Bats: Right-handed Played for: Pakistan, Peshawar, Allied Bank
One-Day Debut: vs. Bangladesh at Dhaka, Only ODI, 1998/99
Total Runs: 86
Total Wickets: 3 Although Wasti is still a veritable rookie on the one-day international scene, he has already proved his potential in test cricket. In the recent Asian test championship match against Sri Lanka he scored a century in each innings.
Full name: Ijaz Ahmed Born: Sept. 20, 1968.
Bats: Right-handed Played for: Pakistan, Habib Bank Limited, Pakistan Automobiles Corporation Gujranwala
One-Day Debut: vs. West Indies at Sialkot, Third ODI, 1986/87
Total Runs: 5,988
Total Wickets: 5 Although a nervous starter, once Ahmed is settled he accumulates with skilful placing and the ability to improvise. Ahmed was omitted from the Pakistani 1992 World Cup squad to late in 1994. Since his return he has appeared to be more dependable and has exhibited the sort of temperament that is needed in one-day cricket. Fine fielder in the deep.
Full name: Inzamam-ul-Haq Born: March 3, 1970.
Bats: Right-handed Played for: Pakistan, United Bank Limited, Multan
One-Day Debut: vs. West Indies at Lahore, Second ODI, 1991/92
Total Runs: 5,867
Total Wickets: 3 Wonderful striker of the ball with a wide range of powerful strokes, he is the mainstay of the middle-order. Has been troubled by weight problems, and is an unreliable runner between the wickets.
Full name: Salim Malik Born: April 16, 1963.
Bats: Right-handed Played for: Pakistan, Essex, Habib Bank Limited, Lahore City Cricket Association
One-Day Debut: vs. West Indies at Sydney, World Series Cup, 1981/82
Total Runs: 7,152
Total Wickets: 88 A last-minute inclusion, Malik is Pakistan's second-highest scorer in one-day internationals behind Javed Miandad. Malik became only the third Pakistani to score a century on his test debut. A former captain of Pakistan, Malik remains at the center of allegations of match-fixing, which he denies. This will be his fourth journey to the World Cup. He is well remembered for his coming out to bat against the West Indies in 1986 in Pakistan to bat on with a broken arm.
Full name: Yousuf Youhana Born: Aug. 27, 1974.
Bats: Right-handed Played for: Pakistan, Bahawalpur
One-Day Debut: vs. Zimbabwe at Harare, First ODI, 1997/98
Total Runs: 576
Total Wickets: -- Only the fifth Christian to play for Pakistan, he is regarded as his country's brightest prospect after making his mark with some impressive middle-order innings in tests during the 1998-99 season.
Full name: Moin Khan (wicketkeeper, vice captain) Born: Sept. 28, 1971.
Bats: Right-handed Played for: Pakistan, Pakistan International Airlines, Karachi City Cricket Association
One-Day Debut: vs. West Indies at Multan, Third ODI, 1990/91
Total Runs: 1,895
Catches: 115 Vice captain who has built his reputation as the man who rescues his side with gutsy lower-order batting. An efficient if unspectacular man behind the stumps. Was a member of the 1992 World Cup-winning squad but was replaced by Rashid Latif for the 1996 World Cup.
Full name: Azhar Mahmood Born: Feb. 28, 1975.
Bats: Right-handed Played for: Pakistan, Islamabad
One-Day Debut: vs. India at Toronto, Sahara Cup, 1996
Total Runs: 606
Total Wickets: 53 A fairly recent addition to the Pakistan squad. Mahmood may well be Pakistan's heir to Imran Khan as its complete all-rounder. Although he has the talent he needs to be more consistent. Mahmood initially broke into the international squad on his batting abilities but can bowl some tight overs at a lively pace. He has scored test centuries but has yet to register a century in the one-day version of the game.
Full name: Abdur Razzaq Born: Dec. 2, 1979.
Bats: Right-handed Played for: Pakistan, Lahore City Cricket Association
One-Day Debut: vs. Zimbabwe at Lahore, Second ODI, 1996/97
Total Runs: 105
Total Wickets: 14 A promising all-rounder that Pakistan hopes will be one of the surprises of the tournament. Razzaq has yet to represent Pakistan at test level.
Full name: Waqar Younis Born: Nov. 16, 1971.
Bats: Right-handed Played for: Pakistan, Glamorgan, Surrey, United Bank Limited, Multan
One-Day Debut: vs. West Indies at Sharjah, Champions Trophy, 1989/90
Total Runs: 537
Total Wickets: 283 After an unremarkable test debut against India in 1989, Younis shook up the cricketing world in 1990. When fully fit this speedster is one of the most feared bowlers in the world; however, he has been fighting an elbow injury over the past year. He missed the 1992 World Cup and played very little in 1995 due to an ongoing back problem. Despite his injuries, Younis shares the record for 200 wickets in the least number of tests with Dennis Lillee. An attacking bowler, he is a great exponent of reverse swing and has a destructive late inswinging yorker. Knows English conditions well after two tours with his country and spells with Surrey and Glamorgan.
Full name: Shoaib Akhtar Born: Aug. 13, 1975.
Bats: Right-handed Played for: Pakistan, Lahore City Cricket Association
One-Day Debut: vs. Zimbabwe at Harare, First ODI, 1997/98
Total Runs: 52
Total Wickets: 27 Considered the fastest bowler in the Pakistani squad who provides a fresh cutting edge alongside Waqar and Wasim. His combination of speed and range of deliveries makes him lethal. This is Akhtar's second trip to England after a 1997 visit with the Pakistan A team.
Full name: Mushtaq Ahmed Born: June 28, 1970.
Bats: Right-handed Played for: Pakistan, Somerset, Multan, United Bank Limited
One-Day Debut: vs. Sri Lanka at Sharjah, Sharjah Cup, 1988/89
Total Runs: 343
Total Wickets: 144 One of the world's three best wrist spinners -- Shane Warne and Anil Kumble complete the trio -- Mushtaq bowls many variations with his relatively brisk action and has a fine googly. Mushtaq brings back memories of his predecessor and mentor, Abdul Qadir. Mushtaq played an integral part in Pakistan's 1992 World Cup winning performance. A cheerful cricketer who had brilliant seasons for Somerset in 1993 and 1995, his performances have been hampered in recent times by back and knee problems. His results in the 1995 tour of Australia and New Zealand silenced many of his critics as he took 28 wickets in his last three test matches.
Full name: Saqlain Mustaq Born: Nov. 27, 1976.
Bats: Right-handed Played for: Pakistan, Surrey, Pakistan International Airlines, Islamabad
One-Day Debut: vs. Sri Lanka at Gujranwala, First ODI, 1995/96
Total Runs: 471
Total Wickets: 187
Currently the world's best off-spinner, especially since Australia's Shane Warne's surgery. His best ball is perhaps his "floater" which drifts away from a right-handed batsman instead of spinning in as expected. He holds the record for taking the most amount of ODI wickets in a calendar year. Saqlain can bowl equally effectively when fielding restrictions are in place or during the final overs of a one-day innings. Honed his skills while capturing 63 wickets in 12 county championship matches for Surrey in 1998.
