Flower batted through the innings for a score of 115*, becoming only the third batsman to score a century in his one-day international debut. Zimbabwe’s former captain, Flower possesses a wealth of international experience and is the most capped player in the squad with 100 internationals to his credit. He often bats in the middle-order.

First black cricketer to represent Zimbabwe at and international level and also the youngest. Fastest bowler in the country but injury-prone. Olonga has returned after totally rebuilding his action, after he was called for throwing the ball in a test in early 1995. Tendency to bowl more no balls and wides than most and has trouble finding his rhythm.

Frequently figured high in the world bowling rankings, Streak has suffered from various niggling injuries. Streak can move the ball in the air and off the pitch. The Bulawayo-born 25-year-old has led the Zimbabwean attack for the last few years. A potential match winner on his day, Streak’s batting can be useful. His knowledge of English conditions may serve him well after playing for Hampshire.


Mpumelelo Mbangwa

Can open the innings, Viljoen prefers the middle-order. A useful change bowler, Viljoen is still struggling to retain a regular spot in the Zimbabwe squad.

Brandes spearheaded Zimbabwe's bowling attack for over a decade, however, he has become rather expensive. Took four wickets when Zimbabwe recorded shock win over England in 1992 World Cup. Brandes is also capable of acting as a pinch-hitter.


Paul Strang
