Making progress Scottish cricketers increase campaign for international statusPosted: Sunday July 12, 1998 03:37 PM
EDINBURGH, Scotland (AP) -- A Scottish campaign for full international limited-overs cricket status has been bolstered by the national team's 2-0 series win over Bangladesh. Scotland was undefeated against Bangladesh -- ranked 10th in the world -- in the three-match series, which was shortened Sunday when the final game was abandoned due to rain. Scotland clinched the series Saturday with a seven-wicket win after dismissing the visitors for 97. Scottish Cricket Union chairman John Everett said the series win would boost his campaign to the sport's world governing body for international status equal to Bangladesh and Kenya. He said the win would be good for the cause but he conceded Scottish cricket still had a long way to go before it could compete against the top teams in the world. Scotland and Bangladesh will meet at the Grange ground in Edinburgh during the cricket World Cup next year.
