SYDNEY, Australia (Reuters) -- Tasmania produced a stunning form reversal to beat Queensland by eight wickets on the third day of its Sheffield Shield cricket match Monday.

Tasmania, beaten by South Australia last week, had too many guns for a struggling Queensland side at the Gabba.

Chasing 109 for victory after dismissing Queensland for just 173 in its second innings, Tasmania reached 110 for two soon after the lunch break.

Dene Hills top scored with 43 for Tasmania, while Michael DiVenuto was unbeaten on 31.

Queensland, who had earlier resumed at 127 for seven, made little headway on Monday.

Pace bowler Greg Rowell, with four for 54, and spinner Colin Miller (three for 29) finished off the Queensland tail in just over an hour.

In Sydney, Victoria was in charge against New South Wales at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Victorian captain Shane Warne declared at 438 for nine just after tea, giving the visitors a 78-run first innings lead.

New South Wales was 79 for two in reply, with Michael Slater 35 not out and Mark Waugh 29 not out. Mark Taylor was out for nine and Steve Waugh fell for five.

Despite a second innings collapse South Australia were in a strong position against Western Australia in Perth.

South Australia, who scored 503 for six declared in its first innings, was 84 for five in its second, with Jamie Siddons on 45 not out. Matt Nicholson had taken four wickets for 32.

Earlier Western Australia declared irafirst innings at 354 for eight.
