SYDNEY, Australia (Reuters) -- Mark Waugh hit his first century of the season Tuesday to help New South Wales hold out for a draw in its Sheffield Shield cricket match against Victoria.

Waugh, whose image has been dented by his admission that he accepted money from an Indian bookmaker, shrugged off the distraction to hit 126 at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Australian test opener Michael Slater also blasted 113 as NSW cruised to 362 for four in its second innings to ensure the match faded to a draw.

"It is nice to get runs and get your confidence going. It's been a pretty tough week or two," Waugh said.

"It'd be much worse if I wasn't making any runs, so it's good that I'm making runs and feeling good within myself."

Western Australia also held out for a draw in its match against South Australia, although the finish was far more dramatic.

Set 359 from just 58 overs to win the match, Western Australia was in deep trouble in its second innings when it collapsed to 153 for seven after just 46 overs.

It lost another wicket in the penultimate over but hung on to escape with a draw.

Earlier in the day, South Australia declared its second innings closed at 209 for six after Jamie Siddons blasted an unbeaten century to become the first player to make at least 10,000 runs in Sheffield Shield.

Siddons, 34, brought up the milestone when he flicked Shane Jurgensen through mid-wicket for two runs on his way to making 125 not out, his 29th Sheffield Shield hundred.
