ST. JOHN'S, Antigua (Reuters) -- Young Jamaican all-rounder Ricardo Powell was named on Monday to replace Carl Hooper in the West Indies World Cup squad.

Powell will be making his first appearance in the West Indies squad after playing in the A team and the Board XI matches against Australia on their recent tour.

West Indies Cricket Board executive secretary Andrew Sealy said the International Cricket Council's technical committee for the World Cup had accepted Powell as a replacement for Hooper who retired from international cricket on Sunday.

Powell will leave for England with the rest of the West Indies squad on Sunday.
