SHENLEY, England (AP) -- Charlotte Edwards scored a maiden test century Thursday as England reached 230 for four on the first day of the one-off women's cricket test against India. The 19-year-old opener was out for 108 when she edged a catch to wicketkeeper Anju Jain off the bowling of Deepa Kulkarni. Edwards, who has scored two centuries in limited-overs cricket, scored the bulk of her runs in a 134 second-wicket partnership with skipper Karen Smithies. Smithies contributed 57 before she was stumped by Jain to make the total 163 for two. India's main strike bowler was Purnima Rau, who had Clare Connor stumped by Jain and bowled Kathryn Leng for 12 to finish the day with figures of 2-62 off 21 overs. Jane Cassar was unbeaten 21 and rookie Claire Taylor was 5 not out at stumps.
