NEW DELHI, India (AP) -- India's star batsman and skipper Sachin Tendulkar left for Australia on Saturday for treatment of back stiffness, United News of India news agency said.

Tendulkar is expected to be examined by a panel of doctors in Adelaide.

Tendulkar missed several matches earlier this year and was treated by a specialist in London just before the World Cup this summer.

The problem recurred while he was preparing to lead India in a triangular series in Sri Lanka. He went ahead and played against Sri Lanka and Australia in August.

Tendulkar will miss a three-match series against the West Indies in Toronto this month and a triangular series featuring India, South Africa and Zimbabwe in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya.

Another injured Indian player, Ajit Agarkar, accompanied Tendulkar to Australia. He will be treated for a hamstring inflammation, UNI said.
