ICC chief regrets death of Hunte
Posted: Saturday December 04, 1999 10:46 AM
CALCUTTA, India (AP) -- The president of the International Cricket Council on Saturday condoled the death Conrad Hunte, describing him as one of the finest opening batsmen in West Indian cricket.
Jagmohan Dalmiya said in a statement in Calcutta that Hunte was a prominent cricket administrator and a worthy ambassador of the game.
He recalled that Hunte protected the West Indies flag from being destroyed during violence that erupted during a test match between West Indies and India in 1967 in Calcutta.
"When trouble was brewing and everybody was running for shelter, Conrad Hunte proved his patriotism by protecting the flag," he said.
