MELBOURNE, Australia (Reuters) -- Victoria came back from the brink to score an unlikely 11-run win over defending champions Western Australia on Saturday and move to the top of the Australian interstate cricket championship table.

Set 176 runs to win, WA was cruising at 129 for two, but lost eight wickets for just 35 in the space of 23 overs to be all out for 164.

The win was the Victorians' third successive outright victory and took them to 18 points after four matches, six clear of Queensland, which has a game in hand.

Western Australia, which has won the competition for the past two years, is stuck in equal second-last place with only four points from four matches.

Seamers David Saker and Ian Harvey were the chief destroyers for Victoria with Saker taking four for 37 and Harvey four for 44.

In Hobart, Tasmania was 90 for one in its second innings at the close of the third day in its match against South Australia.

South Australia took first innings points, declaring at 320 for four in reply to Tasmania's first innings 315.

South Australian opener David Fitzgerald hit 114 and captain Darren Lehmann a brutal 101 not out.
