SYDNEY, Australia (AP) -- Andrew Symonds snared four wickets to help reduce India to 100 and then plundered an unbeaten 28 as Australia raced to a five-wicket victory Friday in the limited-overs international at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Symonds and fast bowler Glenn McGrath took four wickets apiece as the Indians were skittled out in 36.3 overs.

Defending a slim total, Indian bowler Javagal Srinath troubled the Australians early by taking 4-30 but after he'd completed his 10 overs -- with the total at 63 for five -- Symonds and Damien Martyn seized control of the game.

The Australians reached 101 for five in 26.5 overs to join Pakistan on two wins in the series. India is winless after three games in the triangular series.

Chasing a moderate score, the Australians raced to 28 before Srinath had Mark Waugh adjudged lbw.

Venkatesh Prasad had Ricky Ponting, who scored a century Wednesday in the 28-run defeat of India in Melbourne, caught by V.V.S. Laxman with the addition of one to the total.

Adam Gilchrist, who top scored with 37 runs, combined with Michael Bevan to take the total to 55 before Srinath snared three wickets within four runs.

Symonds joined Damien Martyn, who remained unbeaten on 13, with the score on 59 for five and shared a 42-run partnership to ensure the result in a rain-effected game.

After successive defeats to Pakistan and Australia, Indian skipper Sachin Tendulkar promoted himself in the order to open the innings in a bid to strengthen the top order, but the ploy failed.

Tendulkar was the first wicket to fall as McGrath tore through the Indian batting lineup to return 4-8 off 10 overs.

The paceman had openers Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly both caught behind by Gilchrist and then bowled Laxman to reduce the Indians to 18 for three. He later picked up the wicket of Samir Dighe.

After a 42-run partnership between Rahul Dravid and Robin Singh boosted India's total from 29 for four, Symonds ripped through the middle order in a devastating spell.

Symonds trapped Dravid lbw for 22 -- India's highest scorer -- and than added the wickets of Anil Kumble, caught behind, Nikhil Chopra and Prasad to return 4-11 off 3.3 overs.

Brothers Brett and Shane Lee also chimed in with a wicket apiece.

The Australians conceded 32 extras, while only three Indian batsmen reached double figures.
